Therefore, you know you can rely on their cutting-edge technology and superior design to produce world-class performance and unparalleled adventure. I'd keep looking if you aren't planning on travelling the world with a Sutra.Fuji has been producing world-class bicycles for over 115 years. These 3 are generally regarded as touring bikes, plenty of cheaper and/or lighter (non-steel) more versatile gravel bikes out there for you to research. The new color looks really cool too (greenish?) Probably best pick tho, bulletproof and great set up if you want a brooks saddle.įuji gets my vote tho, good enough value parts and not flashy for a thief. Seems like overkill for bikepacking/weekends. As for the rack i think it's cheapo aluminum and won't last long. I don't care for the included saddle (would rather have the option like with pedals). Cheapo rack but probably ok for bikepacking Seems like decent value I suppose, great gear ratios and Deore is tops. ![]() Top quality racks tho (more for loaded touring)įuji: I've heard mixed reviews about frame quality. Nice 13.5kg but i honestly wouldn't buy a bright red bike reading TREK. Trek 520 : I really wanted to like it but for a touring bike at that price sans dynamo hub seems a bit expensive. I've looked at all these in my current search so I'll chime in.Ĭomponents are important, you should familiarize yourself with quality/price and how it reflects in value. Have fun and enjoy your new setup no matter which you you choose - all really nice looking bikes! Front panniers allow for better weight distribution, but I don't like handling all those bags when I have to take them off the bike. For simplicity I usually tour with two larger rear panniers and a handlebar bag. Don't think you could also get a front rack and panniers for that budget though. You can probably get a set of the back roller classics and a bar bag. You'd want better pedals on any of these bikes. I'd think those upgrades are worth the price you might be spending that difference to upgrade the Fuji anyway, especially if you want to do some gravel or rougher bikepacking.the wider tires will be way better. The Sutra is definitely the best equipped - better wheels (WTB 23i w/ thru-axle), tires (Schwalbe 40C), has mudguards, Brooks saddle. The Trek also has an aluminum fork, which I find weird on a touring bike as it's likely less durable. Both have a better drive train (Doere 10sp) than the Trek (Sora 9sp) and have the bar end shifters that you're looking for. I'd go for the Fuji Touring or the Kona Sutra personally. But if you’ve alternative recommendations, lmk! ![]() Other factor is purchasing kit, as I was leaning Ortlieb for waterproof and durability. Oh, also, I’d hoped for a little flare in the drop downs, but I’m not sure if any have significant flare. I wanted bar end shifters, thus these are my options. As well as quality of steel and other components, as, again, I know how to maintain and do general maintenance on an old school road bike, but am clueless about modern tech. so I’d appreciate especially any opinions on that. ![]() I know nothing about the quality of the derailleur, cranks, etc. The Sutra is beautiful with a Brooks saddle and rear rack, needs pedals. The Trek has front and rear racks already, needs pedals. The Fuji is cheaper than all of them, at 1200, and comes with pedals and rear rack. Need lock, panniers, pedals, lights, helmet. Would like something more made-for-activity this time round, though. Desire to bikepack, did 7 day tour of Oregon coast previously on a Craigslist bike. 4 kit - have to spend the voucher all at once at same place :/Īvid city and gravel biker from Midwest America living in London now. ![]()
